Our cottages are very close to this lovely double rainbow!

Many people wonder about rainbows and want to know more about them. Well, a rainbow is a multicoloured arc, which is created by light hitting and shining through water droplets.

It’s formed when light, which comes from the sun hits raindrops, which then separate out into a wide variety of colours.

Many people think that rainbows aren’t whole circles, but they are! The reason you won’t see the complete circle is that the horizon just gets in the way and creates the illusion that it’s only a half! The other half is in the earth!

Have you tried to touch a rainbow? This is really hard and, in fact impossible, as it’s not a physical thing…. it’s just a reflection and you can’t touch reflections!

The very best way of seeing a rainbow is to have the sun behind you… looking at light rain ahead and it then reflects round the shape of the sun.

One of the most amazing things about a rainbow is the variety of colours, which we can see… the first is red and then there is orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

Perhaps the best thing is seeing a rainbow near your home, or, in our case, our holiday cottages in St Davids, Pembrokeshire, especially when it’s over the Cathedral Bell Tower!

There are often rainbows in St Davids!
